English Setter

The English setter breeders say that they should be about twenty five inches for the male and twenty four inches for the female. They should also weigh between sixty to sixty five pounds for males and fifty to fifty five for the females. This is in accordance with the AKC stipulations.

The English setter is originally from France and first arrived there all the way back in the 1500’s. They were a cross between a French pointer and the Spanish pointer. This particular dog was bred to hunt for the French back in the 1800’s. They were not only good at being used for gun dogs they are also great for the dog shows.

The English setter is a very calm and friendly dog. It has been known for its easy going attitude and good manners. They are very good with children of any age and tend to be a bit sensitive. This dog loves to be loved! The more affection you give them the better. They absolutely love the outdoors. They can be a bit stubborn in which they will be a bit difficult to house train. It is very important to begin training these dogs from a very early age to ensure they get rid of these bad habits fast. You must also important to remember to not treat these dogs unkind in any way. They get along with other dogs and tend to bark loudly and a lot unless addressed at the very beginning.

The English setters are very easy to take care of. They need to be brushed once a day to keep their medium length hair knot free. They should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. They tend to get dry skin from this. This daily brushing will also keep your pet from constant shedding.
The English setter is a very good family dog. They can be obstinate so you should start training them from the very beginning. They need proper care. If you do all of this you will be sure to have a great addition to your family.
